Russia develops vaccine against ASF

Russian scientists have begun to develop a vaccine as well as the new type of veterinarian prevention tools against African Swine Fever (ASF), Rosselkhoznadzor.

“Presidium of the Russian Academy of Agricultural put before the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Veterinary Virology and Microbiology the task to develop a vaccine against ASF as well as a new effective treatment and prevention tools of this disease,” said the report.



Scientists of the Institute also stated that one of the priority tasks is to create a complex drug for aerosol disinfection and to develop the technology of its application during an ASF outbreak and at areas that are at risk of the virus.


Rosselkhoznadzor representatives are not excluding foreign experts in creating a vaccine , as for several years now experts in Europe have been working on creating a vaccine.



According to Rosselkhoznadzor this year outbreaks of ASF were registered in 14 regions in Russia, while in the period from 2007 – it has been reported in 31 subjects. So far due to the outbreaks 900,000 pigs have been culled.
