Number of Czech ASF cases rise to 25
The total number of reported outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) in wild boars in the Czech Republic has risen to 25. This was reported by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).
All outbreaks were similar – they were findings of dead animals which were confirmed to be positive for African Swine Fever virus after samples had been have been confirmed in the Zlín region, at about 50 km with the border from Slovakia.

The number of discovered, ASF-infected wild boar carcasses has risen fairly rapidly since the initial report on June 21. All incidents reported occurred relatively close to each other.
African Swine Fever in the European Union
The Czech Republic is the 5th country in the European Union to have been infected with African Swine Fever. Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland have been reporting outbreaks since 2014. Since its introduction in Georgia in 2007, the virus slowly spread to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova as well.
