Lithuania enhances measures against ASF

The Food and Veterinary Service of Lithuania informed the Russian veterinary watchdog Rosselhoznadzor that it has strengthened measures to protect itself from the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) virus.

Previously the European Commission (EC) allocated about 1.5 million euros (5.17 million litas) to Lithuania as an aid for measures that prevent the spread of ASF. Director of the State Food and Veterinary Service Jonas Milius told local media BNS, that this year the European Commission will allocate only the part of necessary funds to fight against the disease, but it is expected that next year the country will receive 100% of required funds from EC.

“Next year, they promised to cover 100 % of costs for measures of prevention against African Swine Fever. We guard the border of the whole European Union, so other countries understand and support us,”said Jonas Milius.
