Kenya: ASF strikes, 80 pigs dead

In Mai Mahui, Kenya 80 pigs have died due to African Swine Fever (ASF). Transporting the moving of pigs in the area has been banned.

“We thought they had consumed something poisonous but we were left in shock after waking in the morning to find 70 more dead,” said a farm worker.

According to a veterinary officer, Enos Amuyunzu, from Naivasha district the situation is under control and a quarantine has been declared in Mai Mahiu. He added, “It’s true some pigs have died but we have put up measures to avoid more deaths.”

It is not the first outbreak in Kenya, a few weeks ago, Murang’a was also reported to have been affected by ASF.
