Foot-and-Mouth Disease reported in Eastern China

A case of Foot-and-Mouth Disease has been confirmed in Jiangsu province, according to a report published by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). The incidence was confirmed on 25 November.

Lab results confirmed FMD Myanmar 98 strain, source of the outbreak(s) or origin of infection is at the moment unknown or inconclusive. 35 pigs have now been destroyed and a number of measure have been put in place to prevent any further outbreaks, including:

  • Movement control inside the country;
  • Screening;
  • Disinfection of infected premises, and
  • Zoning

Foot-and-Mouth Disease tends to appear quite regularly in China, but not always reported.
