EFSA assesses measures to stop spread of ASF in the EU

The discovery of African swine fever (ASF) in Poland and Lithuania, at the end of January this year, has prompted the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is evaluating the effectiveness of control measures, at the request of the European Commission.

The European Commission has made an urgent request to the EFSA for scientific and technical assistance on the evaluation of hunting wild boar as a mitigation measure to prevent the introduction of African swine fever from area infected by the disease.

EFSA’s scientific advice will be published by 14 March 2014.
