Lithuania has temporarily suspended imports of pork and feed for pigs from Belarus, this was stated by the head of State veterinary service Gosvetprodsluzhby, Jonas Milius, at a meeting with the country’s prime minister Algirdas Butkevicius.
According Milius, imports of products of animal origin and animal feed from Belarus has temporarily come to a halt, as they could contain African Swine Fever (ASF) virus.
A similar decision to stop the import of pork and pig feed has also been made by Poland, reported representatives of Poland’s Ministry of Agriculture. Also, last week Russian veterinary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor banned pork from the Grodno region, and there is a chance of introducing a ban on pork imports from the whole country, experts noted.
Restrictive measures have been taken due to the outbreak of ASF in the Grodno region, where now a 20-kilometer “endangered” zone has been declared, and within a radius of two kilometers from the outbreak veterinary services are destroying all pigs at the farms.
