Belgium: One-stop-shop for all pig research

23-12-2011 | | |

The latest results in Belgian pig science should soon be found conveniently at a centralised place. A Pig Desk, housed at the Flemish Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research (ILVO) will serve as the one-stop-shop for the latest independent pig information.

The new desk will both collect and classify research results, as well as help with the extension services towards the industry. In addition, it should also be a centre for new research ideas.

The Pig Desk will be powered by the current practical centre for pigs, housed at the ILVO. The ILVO has always aimed to be the chain to link fundamental academic research to practical situations, and aims to take a multidisciplinary approach towards research.

In time, the Pig Desk will have a Web-based interface, with e.g. several calculation and simulation models.
