Another 4 provinces in Vietnam have reported outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF), bringing the total to 34.
In an update to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), the provinces Lao Cai, Ha Tinh, Quang Nam and Dak Nong indicate to have infections. Below are several specifications of the reports from these outbreaks.
This is a province in the very north of Vietnam, bordering China’s Yunnan province. The province reported a cluster of 3 outbreaks in villages, affecting in total 302 pigs. First outbreak started on 11 May.
This province connects the north and the middle of Vietnam. Only 1 outbreak was reported here, from Cam Xuyen Town, affecting 20 animals. The outbreak was dated 14 May.
Province in the middle of Vietnam, just south of the city Da Nang. Here a cluster of 2 outbreaks was reported, which affected 22 pigs. First outbreak was found on 15 May.
The only southern province which is ‘new’ in this list, located north east of Ho Chi Minh City. The cluster included 4 outbreaks, affecting 177 pigs. The first outbreak was found on 17 May.
In addition, the update by the OIE also mentioned further outbreaks in provinces that were confirmed positive at an earlier stage, including Yen Bai, Son La and Thua Thien-Hue. In total, this update included 2,102 casualties. In total, since the first outbreaks of ASF hit Vietnam, more than 1.3 million animals have been affected by death or culling, according to official figures by OIE.
