ASF spreads in European part of Russia

The African Swine Fever (ASF) virus has spread to almost all European parts of Russia, reported Deputy Head of Russian veterinary service Rosselkhoznadzor, Nikolai Vlasov.

He stated that in some regions due to the epidemic pig farming can be completely eliminated.



“In fact if we lost the battle with African Swine Fever the entire European part of Russia will be affected. All regions located in the European part is either already infected or at very high risk of infection. And while the federal and regional authorities will not change its attitude to this problem, nothing will change, ” he reported. Nikolai Vlasov is calling for a federal program and to amend veterinary legislation because efforts to stop the epidemic did not bring any results.



Currently in the Tver Region and its neighbouring areas, and the Voronezh region is still battling ASF. Vlasov said that the direct damage to the pig industry is estimated at billions of rubles.
