ASF outbreak in South Ossetia

While studying samples of pathological material selected from sows at a private farm, located in Znauri , South Ossetia the genetic material of African Swine Fever (ASF) virus was identified, reported the Russian veterinary watchdog Rosselhoznadzor.

In late March this year, a state of emergency was introduced in two areas adjacent to South Ossetia – Aldorski and Alagirsky areas, Northen Ossetia.

But in early May the state of emergency has been canceled due to the completion of a set of measures aimed to eliminate the outbreaks of disease and decrease the of risk of further spread of the virus.

Rosselhoznadzor tests have been conducted on the request of the veterinary services of South Ossetia, which do not have the experience and equipment to deal with the disease.  The regional offices of Rosselkhoznadzor and the veterinary authorities of regions of the Russian Federation in the North Caucasus and Southern Federal District have received a letter from Rosselkhoznadzor with the request to strengthen activities to control the further spread of ASF.
