US hog company fined for falsifying hog weights

The Agriculture’s Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) have entered into a consent decision with Tyson Hog Markets (Tyson), doing business as Heinhold Hog Markets, Dakota Dunes, for issuing inaccurate livestock weights.

Tyson has been ordered to cease and desist from:

  • falsifying scale tickets for livestock;
  • issuing invoices to buyers that show false weights; and
  • issuing false or inaccurate accountings to sellers of livestock.

Tyson was further ordered to maintain complete and accurate scale records which correctly show the weights of livestock actually weighed by Tyson. Tyson has also been assessed a $15,000 (€12,945) civil penalty and will make restitution to livestock buyers and sellers. The consent decision resolves a complaint that was filed against Tyson.
