Ukraine imported 9,294 tonnes of pork during March 2013, which is 30% less than the previous month. This figure is also significantly lower than the volume of imports in March 2012, when it was of 11,833 tonnes, reported the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club.

This figure is also significantly lower than the volume of imports in March 2012, when it was of 11,833 tonnes, reported the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club.

According to the report, in total during the first quarter of 2013 pork imports was 27.7% higher than last year’s figures, but there is already a clear downward trend in imports of this type of meat. This was due to improving the quality control of imported meat, as well as a temporary ban implemented from 20 March 2013 on pork imports to Ukraine from Brazil.

Pork exports, according to Ukrainian Agribusiness Club in March amounted to 255 tonnes, which is almost five times higher the level of export of February, which was about 57 tonnes. However, it also much lower than the volume of pork exports in March of last year which amounted to 2,149 tonnes. “That means that currently domestic pork producers are focusing primarily on the needs of the domestic market,” added in the report.
