Taiwan needs to set maximum ractopamine levels for pork
US Ambassador Michael Punke has said that Twain (Chinese Taipei) needs to establish a maximum residue level (MRL) for ractopamine for pork.
In his statement at the WTO Trade Policy Review of the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu (Chinese Taipei), Punke said that in 2012 Twain setout the MRL for ractopamine for beef muscle cuts. However, not for pork and other cuts of beef products despite the Codex Alimentarius (Codex) adoption of MRLs for ractopamine in these products.
Twain is an important agricultural market for US farmers, who exported $3.1 billion in 2013, making Twain the USs’ 7th largest agricultural export market.
