Russia may resume pork exports to Japan and other meat in 2014, according to Rosselkhoznadzor. The issue has been recently discussed in the framework of the office talks with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan.
The Japanese side expressed interest in the importing beef, pork, ready-to-cook meat products and some other types of meat. In addition Russia may also import some meat from Japan.
“The Japanese Veterinary Service will provide Rosselkhoznadzor with regulatory requirements for such products, provided by Japanese law, and give consent to Russian companies interested in supplying products to Japan and carry out inspections,” said Rosselhoznadzor.
Rosselkhoznadzor added that both countries already agreed on the list of Russian enterprises to be inspected. “I think the inspection and the decision to lift restrictions on the import of Russian meat to Japan will take place in the summer of next year,” said press secretary of Rosselkhoznadzor, Alexei Alexeenko.
