Russia increases pork production
Russia has increased the production of pork, during the first quarter of the year according to a report by the department of livestock development of the Ministry of Agriculture.
In general, the production of pork in slaughter weight in all categories of farms in January-March of this year amounted to 855,600 tonnes – which is 9.6% or 75,200 thousand tonnes more than during the same period of the last year.
Volume of production of pigs in slaughter weight has most rapidly been growing in the industrial pig farms. In this category the growth has amounted to 17.2% (95,200 tonnes) year on year so the production has reached 649,000 tonnes.
The main growth has occurred at farms in the Belgorod Region (volume of production – 170,400 tonnes, Kursk Region 45,000 tonnes, Tambov Region 34,600 tonnes, Rostov Region 29,300 tonnes and Lipetsk Region 27,000 tonnes).
At the same time, a number of Russian regions in the first quarter of 2014 showed a decrease in pork production in slaughter weight. Thus, the Samara Region produced by 5,200 tonnes less pork compared to the same period the last year, in Voronezh Region this figure amounted to 1,400 tonnes, in Moscow and Perm Regions it was 2,000 tonnes.
But pig quality indicators continue to improve. Thus, for instance the average daily gain in growing and fattening in Russia increased in comparison with first quarter of last year by 8.3% and amounted to 525 grams.
