The company Mersitreyd announced plans to construct five large pig farms in Primorski Krai, Russia by 2016.

Primorski Krai, is located in the Far East part of Russia on the border with China. The new complex will produce for 80% of the demand for pork in the region.

According to the preliminary data the designed production capacity of the enterprise will make Mersitreyd the largest pork producer in eastern part of Russia.

The project will be implemented in a number of steps until 2016. In total five large pig farms of 100 thousands pigs each will be commissioned. Thus the complex will produce 40 thousands tonnes of pork per year.

Deputy director general of Mersitreyd, Alex Choi, has said that in 2011, the company already completed the construction of the first stage of the first pig farm to contain 12,000 pigs. In 2013, the company plans to complete construction of the second stage of the first pig farm which will increase its capacity by 27 000 pigs. The construction of the other farms will be carried out at the same time.

Also according to experts, in the next year the company plans to expand its own area from 8000 to 10,000 hectares to increase the harvest of feed grain. This is necessary for the production of high-quality pork because the new complex will have a need for uninterrupted supply of quality raw feed materials, reported the representatives of the company
