Kenyan tour of China brings home the bacon

05-06-2012 | | |

Kenyan Vice president, Kalonzo Musyoka’s China tour has brought investors to Kenya, among them Yurun Food International, the pig producer.

The one week tour in China had Musyoka speaking not only to expat Kenyans, but also to Chinese multinationals. In a strategy to attract Chinese investors to Kenya, vice president Musyoka was successful in getting the food giant Yurun Food International to joint venture in several Kenya businesses.

Yurun plans to use these joint ventures with Kenyan farmers to raise swine, cattle, and lamb for the China market.

Yurun slaughters 45 million pigs a year, and has an annual turnover of US$20 billion.
