Pork production in Russia in the first two months of the year amounted to 459,000 tonnes, which is 9% more than the same period of 2014 for industrial pig breeding, says a report of the Russian Union of Pig Producers (RUPP).
Strong results of the first two months has resulted in RUPP and the Russian analytical agency ICAR raising its forecasts on the development of pork production in the country. The reports at the beginning of the year stated that this year the industry will experience only some ‘inertia growth’ of 2-3%, while now ICAR forecasts says growth will amount to 5%, while RUPP estimated it at 5-6% compare to 2014.
In 2014, the industrial production of pork exceeded 2.9 million tonnes – about 320,000 tonnes more than in the previous year. At the same time, the CEO of RUPP Yuri Kovalev stated that for the significant growth in pork production during 2015-2016, the launch of the construction of new projects was needed in the period of 2012-2013.
According to Kovalev there were very few such projects due to the low level of state support in this period. However, he added that the significant growth will resume after 2017, when several large-scale projects will be implemented, announced in 2014. At the same time, expert of ICAR Daniel Khotko stated that the development may be hampered with a decrease in demand forecasted for 2015.
