EU food and feed legislation, restructured since 2000, is driving major changes in the food chain, forcing operators to upgrade product quality, and demonstrate safety and efficacy, or disappear from the EU market. A strain-specific selenium yeast is one of the first feed additives approved under new EU legislation, illustrating the need for both resources and innovation.
