In the near future China will resume export of pork to Russia, which has been stopped in the beginning of 2015. This was announced by Yulia Trofimova of the Russian veterinary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor.
According to Trofimova, the veterinary body has received information that Chinese companies are ready to resume exporting pork to Russia. “For this reason, Rosselkhoznadzor will again start monitoring the Chinese enterprises involved, in order to check the quality of the pork meant for Russia.” She added that the actual volume of the pork exports are to be determined.
According to Rosselhoznadzor there currently are just two companies from China who are allowed to export pork to Russia: Wangkui Shuanghui Beidahuang Food and Heilongjiang Baoquanling Shuanghui Food. Both of them are located in Heilongjiang Province, which borders the Russian Far East. They were already approved as supplier of pork in 2014. Before that, China had not been exporting any pork to Russia for 10 years. After the first small deliveries in the beginning of 2015 however the export was stopped. No official reasons were given, but sources claim that Rosselhoznadzor found that the Chinese pork was of poor quality.
