Chile’s pork meat output grows

30-05-2012 | | |

Chile’s Ministry of Agriculture reports that the pork sector, followed by the poultry sector, showed the strongest growth in output between the years 2000 and 2010.

Annual growth rate of pork production over the decade was 6.7%, and is believed to have been largely fueled by exports to the increasingly important growing markets of Japan and South Korea. In 2010, Chilean pork production was 498,000 tonnes of dressed meat.

The meat sector in Chile grew by 1.9% over the decade, growth that was strongly supported by a 4.1% per year increase in the consumption of pork.
