Chilean pork consumption has grown to 26.6 kg per year, the National Statistics Institute of Chile (INE) reports.
In total, meat consumption rose by 9.7% in the last five years. The strongest growth could be observed in poultry consumption, as Chilean annual consumption grew to 37.5 kg per capita. Beef came third with 24.4 kg per person per year.
In 2013, Chileans consumed an average of 89.1 kg of meat.
In 2008, the Chileans ate 81.2 kg of meat per person. Initially, that figure dropped by 2.7 percent points in 2009, coinciding with the economic crisis, after which it grew to the current 89.1 kg.
Sausage consumption increased too, as this figure grew to 15.6 kg per person per year.
