New breeding goal at DanBred aims to improve sows’ ability to care for more piglets
Litter weight gain is a new robustness trait in the breeding goal for DanBred Landrace and DanBred Yorkshire. The new trait will increase the number of weaned piglets per weaning by half a piglet annually and will support higher and stable growth in the litter until weaning.
IFF extends Enviva PRO probiotic range to improve swine welfare
IFF announced the extension of their 3-strain Bacillus probiotic, Enviva PRO, to pigs, which the company says can better protect weaned piglets against diverse health challenges. The product is currently available to swine producers across Japan and the US, with plans to extend availability to other territories following pending regulatory authorisations.
Perstorp’s Waspik (NL) site achieves zero greenhouse gas emissions
Perstorp, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysia’s Petronas Chemicals Group Berhad, announced that the animal nutrition-focused plant in Waspik, the Netherlands, has reduced its direct emissions (Scope 1 & 2) to report zero over 2024. It is the first Perstorp location with this distinction.
£2.1 million investment into insect genetics firm Beta Bugs
Scottish business Beta Bugs, launched in 2017, has secured a multimillion-pound investment as it looks to become a global leader in insect genetics. The investment will further its developments into Black Soldier Fly genetics and assist in scaling up production of eggs and juvenile larvae to supply to insect farming operations.
Weltec Biopower strengthens presence in Japan
Weltec Biopower has reported an order for a 450-kW plant from the agricultural sector as well as a 250-kW biogas plant in Yamagata Prefecture with additional Weltec Blue Water treatment. In addition, a 450-kilowatt plant for a pig farm near Nagano Prefecture is currently being planned. The company also notes that it is able to adapt its technical solutions to seismically active areas using special structural engineering.
Alltech releases 2025 Asia Import Risk Analysis
Alltech has released the results of the Alltech 2025 Asia Import Risk Analysis. Now in its 4th edition, the report provides Asian feed and livestock producers with insights that will help optimise nutritional strategies. It uses data from the Alltech 2024 Harvest Analysis carried out across Europe and North America. The report also contains risk assessments for individual species, including grow-finish pigs.
Evonik invests into technical upgrade of its European methionine Verbund
To optimise its production setup for MetAmino (DL-methionine), Evonik is conducting a technical upgrade of its European methionine Verbund Antwerp (Belgium)/Wesseling (Germany). The double-digit million euro investment requires a partial shutdown of these facilities for 8-10 weeks in the period May to July 2025. All existing contracts and supply agreements will be honored.
