In this ‘Meet the Expert’ podcast series, global opinion leaders answer practical questions revolving around topics of swine health and management. In this episode, Robert Hoste talks about how to maintain profitability whilst also focusing on sustainable pork production.

The ‘Meet the Expert’ podcast series is made possible by Pig Progress in cooperation with Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health.

This is the second episode in this series that features senior pig production economist Robert Hoste of Wageningen Economic Research in the Netherlands. He previously spoke about swine production worldwide. In this podcast, on behalf of Pig Progress, hosts Vincent ter Beek and Iris Hofman speak to him about remaining sustainable while achieving profitability. He talks about sustainability and the 4 ‘P’s’ – people, planet, pigs and profit – and discusses pig welfare, antibiotics, labour, animal diseases, biosecurity, management, the climate, legislation, and the consumer price of meat.

Meet the (other) experts

In case you missed it, in the previous episode, Dr Franz Lappe of Vivet veterinary practice in Germany and Dr Cecilie Kobek-Kjeldager of Aarhus University in Denmark spoke about the topic of tail biting in pigs.

The podcasts in this series are available on podcast channels including Soundcloud, Spotify, Google Podcasts or Apple Podcasts.
