The so-called ‘vaccination circle’ in the event of an outbreak of classical swine fever has been extended to 2km as stated in a new strategic plan proposed to the Dutch parliament by agriculture minister Gerda Verburg.
The extension follows a study by the Animal Sciences Group and agricultural-economic institute LEI where it was established that vaccination of all pig facilities in a larger circle is more effective.
Verburg believes that the adaptation of this new theory is a clear example of the flexibility of the strategic plan.
