US pork exports record breaking

The U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) have issued a press release stating that U.S. pork exports set a new record in April, with more than 175,640 tons of pork and pork products shipped internationally, 12% more than the previous record set in February.

For the first four months of 2008 pork exports are up a staggering 52% above the same period last year. USMEF reports that pork exports have accounted for 22% of all U.S. pork production so far this year, with the top markets being Japan and China.

According to the USMEF release, U.S. beef and beef variety meat exports are also considerably higher than the same period in 2007.
