UPB Genetic World ships first pigs to Vietnam

For the first time in history, the Spanish company UPB Genetic World, has exported live reproduction pigs to Vietnam.

The company, headquartered in Viver i Serrateix near Barcelona, has shipped both male and female pigs (pure Landrace, Large White and Piétrain). The animals have a pedigree of the Spanish National Association of Selected Swine Breeders (ANPS).

Contacts were established over four years ago, leading to this deal in which the animals will occupy a genetic nucleus farm near Bacninh, close to the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi.

Upcoming country

Vietnam is an upcoming country with a young population (total 84 million) and an important tradition in the pork sector. The number of reproductive animals is expected to grow enormously to reach 3.6 million sows in the next ten years.

According to UPB, the animals’ high level of sanitary status helped facilitate the choice for Spanish company.

The live animals were transported from Barcelona to Hanoi, via Frankfurt by plane, at the 20th of July.
