Russia may face a huge bill when it comes to African Swine Fever (ASF). 12 billion rubles ($426 million) may have to be spent over seven years to combat ASF.
This has been stated by Nikolai Vlasov, deputy chief of Rosselkhoznadzor (the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance).
The country will need to fork out for laboratories and incentives for farmers.
Thus far 17,000 pigs have been culled due to the disease this year. African Swine Fever is prevalent in Russia’s Southern and North-Caucasus Federal Districts.
