Russia should build up the production of top quality frozen pork and poultry, Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev said this week.
He was speaking at a conference of Stavropol Territory officials devoted to the implementation of the agro-industrial complex development national project and a five-year state programme.
“Frozen products are one of our major competitive edges over imported frozen meat and this edge must be used far better,” he said. “Currently all of Russia-produced pork is processed into sausages and salami.”
Gordeyev said the growing import of meat products was “outrageous expansion and an unfair struggle for the Russian market.”
