Overall red meat production in Russia in the 1st half of 2009 exceeded 4.1 million tonnes of meat in live weight, which is 6% higher than in the 1st half of 2008, according to the Minister of Agriculture of Russia Elena Skrynnik.
“This will allow us to reduce red meat imports volumes from 32% to 25%”, – stated the Minister during her press-conference.

“Pork production increased by 8%, the same figures are observed for beef, while the production of poultry meat increased by 12%, said the minister. However, in the first half of the year there was a slight decrease in the production of milk”
According to Skrynnik, the current situation in the country allows Russian farmers to increase their meat production, while the government will help them provide money for 156 investment projects in construction of large livestock facilities, with the total cost of 201.2 Russian billion rubles (EUR 8 bln).
