Pork recalled for possible listeria contamination
Pork processor Herman Falter Packing, from Ohio, is recalling approximately 540 kg of pork products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
That was made public by the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
Testing
The problem was discovered through FSIS microbiological testing. The service has not received any reports of illnesses associated with consumption of this product.
The following products are involved in the recall:
• One-pound packages of ‘Falter’s Purity Brand smoked pork neck bones’
• One-pound packages of ‘Falter’s Purity Brand smoked pork jowl’
• Three-pound packages of ‘Falter’s Purity Brand frankfurters with smoke flavoring added’
• 10-pound box of ‘Jarold’s cooked Italian sausage’
Production
The pork products were produced on September 13, 18, and 19, 2006, and were distributed to retail and wholesale establishments in the Columbus, Ohio, area.
Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. It could cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.
