Poland is thinking of vetoing Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) if the world’s largest country continues to ban imports of Polish meat.
In a Swiss newspaper, Polish president Lech Kaczynski said he was considering this move by the European Union in order to finally come to a solution for the problem created by the ban.
For 17 months now, Russia has been banning imports of Polish meat and other agricultural products. According to Russian health authorities, these products do not meet Russia’s quality requirements; in addition, the Russians claim certificates have been falsified.
Both Poland and the EU think that the trade problems are related to political motives.
