The financial soundness of pig operations can be easily tracked by a new website launched by both the Red Meat Industry Forum (RMIF) and the British Pig Executive (BPEX).
The web site (www.primenumbers.co.uk), claimed to be the first of its kind in the world, pulls together the financial and physical performance data from the RMIF benchmarking clubs and the health data from the BPEX-operated British Pig Health Scheme (BPHS).
RMIF project manager Clare Wise explained: “This is an exciting development for producers. For the first time they will have easy access to all the information they need to improve their profitability which will be invaluable. It has been designed to be user-friendly to make it as easy as possible for producers to get the greatest value out of it.”
BPEX strategy coordinator Andrew Knowles added: “The BPHS data allow members to identify sub-clinical disease before it is evident on the farm. This initiative will, for the first time, help identify the cost of health conditions on a farm’s bottom line as well as physical performance.”
Individual producers can identify their unit and access their herd health status. The Internet site is fully confidential with a gatekeeper unauthorised people from obtaining the information.
