Pig industry award: Doug Ross Overseas Travel and Study Award open for applications

The winner of the award will attend the International Pig Veterinary Society (IPVS) Congress 2012 held in Jeju, Korea from 10-13 June. In addition, the Australian Pig Veterinarians are holding a technical meeting in advance of the IPVS Congress on 6-8 June in Shanghai, China. These two meetings present a wonderful opportunity for the winner to continue their education and meet people from the international veterinary community.

 

The 2010 winner, Jill Groat, a final year veterinary student at Charles Sturt University, went to IPVS 2010 in Vancouver, Canada.

 

The Doug Ross Overseas Travel and Study Award takes place every two years and recognises the contribution of the late Doug Ross (1947-2000) to the Australian pig industry. Doug was a veterinarian who was passionately involved in the pig industry and was a mentor for many people in the industry.

 

The winner of the award will receive an economy air fare from Australia to Jeju, via Shanghai, registration fees, and accommodation and living expenses for the period of the meetings. The total value of the award is approximately AUD$4000. Other international travel options will also be considered.

 

The award is supported by funds set aside from the Australian Pork Corporation and the Pig Research and Development Corporation at the time of the formation of Australian Pork Limited, and a donation from the Australian IPVS 2000 organising committee.
