The latest figures showing top swine producing regions within the Philippines were presented recently at the 1st Negros Occidental Hog Congress in Bacolod City, Philippines.
Central Luzon, the number one swine-producing region, produces 13.88% of the country’s swine population as of the start of 2006, followed by Calabarzon producing 12.57%.
Albert R T Lim, president of the National Federation of Hog Farmers, said that Western Visayas ranks third, accounting for 9.85% of the total national production in the Philippines.

According to the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, the region’s swine population increased 11.23% from 1.152 million in January 2005 to 1.281 million in January 2006.
