Philippines to export pork to Singapore

16-07-2008 | |

The Philippines will start selling pork products to Singapore this year. Accreditation has been given to Matutum Meat Packing Corp. in the southern province of South Cotabato as sole processor of pork exports to the island-state.

The Singapore’s Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority recently accredited Matutum after the company complied with Singapore government requirements, Bureau of Animal Industry Director Davinio Catbagan said.

The requirements include, among others, assurance that the pork is free from veterinary drug residues. The Department of Agriculture did not disclose the intended volume of pork exports.

The department will inaugurate this month a P50-million meat inspection laboratory in Polomolok.
