02-05-2012 | |

At the Annual General Meeting, president Jim Donaldson presented an engraved mantel clock to Robert J. Robinson, the 2011 recipient of the Canadian Swine Breeders Association Achievement Merit Award.

After graduating from the University of Guelph, Robinson worked for the ShurGain Division of Canada Packers for 10 years, calling on dealers and gathering knowledge before following his dream to farm; his “vista” to own land and raise animals was realised in 1967 when the farm was purchased and Vista Villa was born.

Vista Villa Farms has pedigreed pigs for 45 years and registered the most purebred pigs in Ontario in 2011. Each year Vista Villa tests approximately 2000 purebred gilts through the Canadian Centre for Swine Improvement.

Robinson has served as director or chairperson on Ontario Swine Breeders Association, Ontario Swine Improvement, Ontario Pork Industry Improvement Programme, Ontario Pork Congress, Canadian Swine Breeders Association, Canadian Centre for Swine Improvement, the Royal Agriculture Winter Fair, the Huron County Federation of Agriculture and Huron County Pork Producers.
