Perdigao SA, one of the leading Brazilian poultry and pork producers, and its local rival Eleva Alimentos SA announced yesterday that they are currently in talks about a potential merger.
In a joint statement to the Brazilian securities regulator, both companies announced that the “ownership and operational structure will be communicated to the shareholders and the market as soon as it has been decided upon.”
Previously, Perdigao, which is no. 2 in Brazil, went into negotiations with Sadia, another larger rival, but a deal never took place as Perdigao preferred to remain independent.
Eleva sells dairy products along with poultry and pork, which would provide Perdigao with a share of the Brazilian dairy market.
