Lawsonia intracellularis: a barrier to health and performance (Special 2005)

Porcine proliferative enteropathy (PPE), commonly referred to as ileitis, is an intestinal infectious disease characterised by thickening of the aboral small intestinal mucosa due to enterocyte proliferation associated with the presence of an intracellular bacterium, Lawsonia intracellularis.
