Joint FMD simulation for European countries

Four European countries have participated in a practise with regard to an outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) close to its borders.

The FMD simulation was coordinated by the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV), with representatives from German state of North Rhine Westphalia onlooking ©and took place near the borders of the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg and Germany. Over 50 members of the country’s veterinary services were present.

Disease outbreaks
The simulation’s aim was to improve cooperation of especially the first three countries with regard to disease outbreaks. By locating the simulation close to the countries’ borders, delegates had the opportunity to learn all relevant phases of a managing such a crisis, like a phase with increased vigilance, a confirmation phase with specific measures and a conclusive phase.
