International pork conference on Gold Coast

Pork industry representatives from across the Pacific are meeting on Queensland’s Gold Coast for the fifth Pan Pacific Pork Expo.

The conference comes at a time when food costs are crippling and challenging the industry, and 70 per cent of pork used by processors in Australia is imported.

The 300 delegates will be hearing from pig producers from the United States, where the largest piggery is home to 500,000 sows.

A UK expert will talk about food safety and reducing feed costs, and there’s also a debate on the merits of cloning.
