Holland trades more finisher pigs

13-10-2006 | |

Until September the Netherlands have exported 2.1 million finisher pigs, a 5.4% growth compared to 2005.

Especially exports to Germany rose sharply. From January to September the country altogether bought 2.1 million pigs, a 12% growth.

Finisher pig imports increased too, by 9.8%. Despite this figure the number of slaughterings dropped by 2.5% to 10.5 million.

Piglet imports

Piglet imports grew tenfold to almost 20,000 head, probably because of Dutch pig producers having their breeding facilities in Germany or Belgium.

Dutch piglet exports have increased sharply in the first nine months of 2006 – 14% more piglets were exported than in the same period last year.
