German pig prices high in first six months

01-08-2006 | |

German pig producers received higher prices for their pigs in the first months of 2006.

The reason for that was mainly to be found in the soccer World Cup, held in Germany, in June and July, but also in the good weather, encouraging barbecues.

These figures were released by the German Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE).

The high prices compensated for the relatively large supply of finisher pigs. At most, a kilogramme of slaughterweight pork (trade class E), was €1.67 in the end of June – in comparison to €1.53 one year earlier.
