French pork industry tired of accusations

13-03-2008 | |

The French meat industry is fed up with claims about unjustified price increases.

According to the French Meat Industry Association (SNIV), “the media campaigns are adversely affecting farmers who are struggling to keep their heads above water at present.”

Retail prices for meat have risen steadily in the last year – pork by 5.9% and beef by 4.1% respectively.

However, the meat industry has been accused of increasing prices of meat products above the necessary limits, an accusation which the SNIV terms as “stigmatisation”.

The association has pointed out that much has been invested in improving quality, innovation and food safety.
