French pig farmers protest in Rennes

19-02-2008 | |

Thousands of French pig farmers have demonstrated today, Tuesday 19th, in the city of Rennes, France.

They blocked several major roads into the city, handed out thousands of leaflets to the public and had a meeting with the prefect, the regional head of government.

With the demonstration, the Federation National Porcine aims to make the public more aware of the difficult situation the French pig farmers are in.

Emergency plan
The FNP has asked for a national emergency plan from the government in Paris, which over the last few months has already allocated several tens of millions of support for the pig sector in the country.

The FNP also demands a price rise for pork in the large French supermarkets.
