First case of Foot-and-Mouth disease in Bulgaria in over a decade

It has been reported that the first case of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) has been discovered for the first time in 12 years in Bulgaria.

The discovery was made yesterday, 5 January, in a wild boar, which has been killed in the region of the south eastern Bulgarian city of Burgas.
 
Disinfected
All vehicles passing through the region are currently being disinfected, in order to stop the spread of the disease. While a 10 km security zone has been established. Also, all live animal trade in the Burgas region has come to a standstill.
 
Ban export of animal products
“Bulgaria may face a ban on the export of animal products if the disease is to spread,” Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov has said.
