Prices for EU pigs and pork have dropped tremendously after this year’s summer. In comparison to the end of August, average prices are almost €0.19 lower per kilogramme slaughterweight.
A price decrease after summer is not uncommon – last year in the same period it was just over €0.11. Two years ago the prices only decreased by almost €0.04.
These figures appear in the European pig prices research by the German pig producers organisation ISN. In 2004 the ISN started to keep track of the most important prices in thirteen EU countries and tried to translate these to a price for a standard pig.
It appears that the average pig price this week is €1.41 per kg slaughterweight. In the end of August this was €1.60.
