EU pig prices rise by 5.5%

06-10-2006 | |

Pig prices in the European Union have risen by 5.5% in comparison to 2005. In the first nine months of 2005, average pig price per kg slaughterweight was €1.434, compared to €1.359 in the same period last year.

These results appear from the European pig prices research, carried out by the German Board of Pig Producers (ISN).

Only in Poland the price of pigs has been actually lower than last year. On average, pig prices in this country turn out to be the lowest of all EU member states.

Spain & Italy
In the other member states, pig prices rose. Highest pig prices could be found in Spain, the report stated. Italian pig prices rose the most – not very surprising as large supplies caused low prices in 2005.

Every week, ISN calculates pig prices into a corrected price per kg slaughterweight from thirteen EU countries.
