Energy rich feed reduces manure volume

10-11-2006 | |

Feeding pigs energy rich feed may help to reduce the manure output of these animals. According to Dutch feed company Coppens Diervoeding a reduction of 5% in manure volume is realistic.

If high energy feed is supplied, the animals need less feed in total, which consequently reduced the manure volume.

According to Coppens, by changing the diet this way, manure volume can be reduced by 10% with a 5% reduction in phospate and 4% less nitrogen.

In addition, high energy feed has a positive effects on the overall performance of the animals.
